2025 Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop - Block Instructions

Our finished block is made of 9 mini blocks of 3 strips each. It is very customizable, so you can create a block of your liking. The strips included in the kit have been over-cut to ensure you’d have zero issues with the size, depending on how comfortable you are with a scant ¼” – they will need to be cut down. Please read through instructions completely before beginning.

Kit Includes Nine 2”x12” Strips:
2 - Floral Pattern (A)         1 - Dark Purple (E)
1 - Foliage Pattern (B)       1 - Stripes (F)
1 - Green Lattice (C)          1 - Multicolor Polka Dots (G)
1 - Light Purple (D)            1 - Yellow Polka Dots (H)

Color Combinations:
Feel free to change it up to your liking, though!
Block 1 - Floral Pattern, Foliage Pattern, Green Lattice

Block 2 - Light Purple, Dark Purple, Stripes

Block 3 - Multicolor Polka Dots, Floral Pattern, Yellow Polka Dots

Cutting Instructions:
Trim strips down to 1.5”x12” (if you have difficulty sewing with a scant seam allowance, you may trim down a little less).

Sewing Instructions:
1. Create Block 1 - With right sides together and using a scant ¼” seam allowance, sew strip A to strip B along one 12” side. Press seam to one side. Next, sew strip C to strip B along 12” side, then press seam to one side. Cut this sewn set of strips into three 3½” squares.

2. Repeat step 1 to create Blocks 2 and 3 with your remaining strips. You should end up with nine 3½” squares. Arrange these squares into three rows of three.

3. Create Row 1 - With right sides together and using a scant ¼” seam allowance, sew Block 1 to Block 2 along one edge. Then sew Block 3 to Block 2. Press seams to one side.

4. Repeat step 3 to create Rows 2 and 3.

5. With right sides together and using a scant ¼” seam allowance, sew Row 1 to Row 2 along one long edge. Then sew Row 3 to Row 2. Press seams to one side.

Your finished block should measure 9 ½” square. Trim if needed.
